Google AdSense is a pay-per-click advertising network. You add a bit of HTML code to your website and Google.com will then display text ads that are relevant to the content of your website. Google calls this "AdSense for content." Google scans your webpage and looks for keywords, then searches its database of ads and finds ads that match those keywords. Whenever a consumer clicks on an ad, Google pays you. The amount of money that Google pays you for the ad click depends upon
the particular ad and how much money Google is getting from the advertiser of that ad. Advertisers bid and the one with the highest bid will have their ads shown first. So a keyword that is in high demand will pay more. That said, you do not want to keyword stuff your pages. Rather, create real content written for your website visitors, add the Google AdSense code to it, and let Google do the rest.
You can also select "AdSense for search" that displays a search box on your website where you insert the supplied HTML code. When a visitor enters a keyword and clicks search, search results for the web or from your website (the visitor selects) are shown along with ads relevant to the keyword. If the visitor clicks on one of those ads, Google pays you. Again, the amount that Google pays you depends upon the keyword.
WARNING: Do not click on the ads on your own website; Google will close your AdSense account if you do that. Don't worry if you accidentally click on an ad once or twice.

Some tips for increasing your Google AdSense revenue:
-
Keeps your pages uncluttered. Keep your page design simple. If there is to much stuff to click on, then it reduces the probability that the visitor will cick on the ads.
-
Make the ads blend in with the content of your website. If you have an article, put the ads at the start of the article and make the article wrap around it to the right and bottom. Do that by putting the Google AdSense code in a left-aligned <table> just above your article:
<table align="left">
<tr><td>AdSense code</td></tr>
</table>
<p>Article text</p>
-
Set the color of the ads so that it blends in with the background of your website. And set the color of the title link to blue so it looks like a link. On a page with a white background, I use these color settings for the ads:
- Border # FFFFFF (white)
- Title # 0000FF (blue)
- Background # FFFFFF (white)
- Text: # 000000 (black)
- URL # 000000 (black)
-
If you have a horizontal navbar (navigation bar) or a "You are here" navbar (e.g.: "Home > Calendars > Cat Calendars") at the top of your pages then put a 4-ad "link unit" (468 x 15) immediately under it.
-
If you have navigation links in the sidebar down the right-hand side of your pages then add a vertical 5-ad "link unit" (160 x 90 or 120 x 90) at the top or near the top of the sidebar. Blend the ads into your sidebar.
