DySE (Dynamic Store Engine)

A Review of Ecommerce Site creation using DySE
by Richard Dine
-
I have been doing ecommerce web site design since the mid 1990s. Back in the bad old days it was necessary to scan the images of the products, create a web page for each product, type a description and then add it to your ecommerce shopping cart software. On a good day you might be able to add ten or fifteen products to your ecommerce web site.
-
Fast forward to today, many vendors offer xml data feeds that are updated often and contain all the information needed to compile a complete affiliate ecommerce web site.
-
I had avoided using them since it seemed to require special software to turn these raw data feeds into a working ecommerce internet solution. A few months ago my interest was once again piqued when i saw a lot of ads for a 7 dollar script called the Audible Store Generator which was supposed to take the data feed from audible.com and turn it into a complete affiliate ecommerce web site. Tried the script on 5
different servers with no luck. Searching in google, I discovered that it appears that no one else could get the script to work either. The data feed for this company is 39 megs in size and the server would just choke when it came time to parse the feed into a database to generate pages.
-
Using Google to look for another ecommerce web site solution, I stumbled upon a site with a software called the Dynamic Store Engine [DySE]. It has two parts a viewer which is common to all the individual store scripts and then the script for your desired affiliate program. It might look overwhelming at first glance, however they provide very clear and detailed instructions on their website to walk anyone through the installation of
their scripts. During the installation I ran across the same problem parsing the datafeed on my server. Ohh Noooo , but before I gave up I reread their instructions which addressed this problem with a solution and followed their instructions to parse the datafeed on my local computer then upload the files to my server. A potentially bad problem solved for me by this brilliant programming team.

DySE has scripts for many online merchant affiliate programs including over 152 merchants in the NetShops.com Affiliate Network. This company provides a great working solution to creating your ecommerce websites. One interesting thing is most of these scripts are free! The only one that has a nominal charge is the one for Amazon.com . They make their money by
positioning you under their company in two tier affiliate programs. Amazon does not offer a two tier program so that [Amazon.com] script has a cost of only $99.95 for the first year and then $24.95/year subsequently.

Even though all the pages are dynamically generated and take little space on your server, I ran the Google sitemap maker software on my finished site and was amazed when it found almost 60,000 pages. Using mod_rewrite each page exists to the search engines with a descriptive title. Each vendor has an assortment of page templates which you can customize to make your store unique. The script authors just let me know that DySE automatically generates Google sitemaps, so
there was no need to use my external sitemap generator. Just another example of the awesome quality they have built into this script.

The programming team at DySE have done an excellent job of making ecommerce web design easier. With the datafeeds you can easily update your site to reflect the latest products. I recommend them to anyone wanting to create easy to update e stores.
